Our verdict on Moz

Updated October 5, 2026

Business users rate Moz Pro well: 4.3 on G2, 4.5 on Capterra, and 7.9/10 on TrustRadius. They praise how easy it is to learn, its Domain Authority scores, and its keyword research and reports. The low marks come from two other places. Trustpilot (2.4) collects billing complaints about trials that turned into charges and refunds Moz refused, and the free MozBar extension (3.3) draws one-star reviews about the sign-in and usage limits added to it. Those two pull the cross-platform average down to 3.6. PCMag named Moz Pro an Editors' Choice in 2019. PCMag and Moz have shared a parent company, Ziff Davis, since 2021.

A company that still responds to bug reports!

Since I first started building software 30 years ago, I've seen a steady decline in how companies respond to customer feedback, especially if you aren't an enterprise with multimillion-dollar budgets. Not so with Moz... as an individual customer, I identified a bug regarding cookie overlays in their PDF reports, and sent a message to customer service, expecting to be shrugged off or ignored. Instead, they stuck with me through the multi-week process of looping back to their product team, producing revisions, and listening to my feedback at each step until the problem was solved. Bravo! Great customer service... and their PDFs look *much* better now :-)

Great suite of tools for SEO professionals and agencies

What they like: The automated reports that can be customized are so helpful. We run in-depth reports for our internal team and then send monthly reports for the client that show the most important insights. This way they are not inundated with unnecessary reporting and only see the high level overview of what is most important for people without SEO knowledge to understand; their rankings and visibility! This is also a very easy to use system with way more documentation and resources available. What they dislike: I would like to see a better way to group keyword rankings on reports so we can give statistics on primary keywords, secondary, etc. Most agencies add additional, harder to achieve keywords after the first year but you really need to give more value to achieving first page rankings on those keywords than the branded ones they may already be ranking for. It would help us show the work we've done and its value rather then grouping them all together.

Simple. Powerful, Valuable

What they like: I've been using Moz Pro for more than a decade. It's the simplest SEO tool that I've used. Other tools I have used include Screaming Frog and SEMRush. I'll note that I'm not a technical SEO -- I've always relied on dev resources for that. For what I need, however, Moz is perfect. It helps me optimize every page of my website based on data, provides excellent tracking and reporting, helps with link building, and makes it easy to identify and fix crawl errors. Setup is a breeze, so you can get up and running in a short amount of time. What they dislike: The only thing I'd say I dislike about Moz Pro is its application to technical SEO. That's not something I personally use it for, but I know that tools like SEMRush and Screaming Frog have more niche functionality that goes beyond that of Moz.

A Solid, User-Friendly SEO Platform for Marketers

What they like: What I appreciate most about Moz Pro is its comprehensive, all-in-one approach to SEO, wrapped in a user-friendly interface. For someone who needs a single tool to manage multiple aspects of their SEO strategy, Moz Pro is a great solution. The standout features for me are the Keyword Explorer, the Site Crawl, and the Link Explorer. The Keyword Explorer is intuitive and provides clear, actionable metrics like keyword difficulty and search volume. The new AI-powered features that group keywords by search intent are particularly useful, helping me quickly identify and target high-value phrases. This saves a lot of time that would otherwise be spent manually sorting through data. The Site Crawl tool is another huge plus. It automatically audits my website, flags technical SEO issues, and, most importantly, gives clear, prioritized recommendations on how to fix them. This is a game-changer, especially for a small team, as it removes the guesswork from technical SEO. The ability to re-crawl a site on demand to confirm a fix has been implemented is also a very welcome feature. Finally, the Link Explorer, which has been a core part of Moz for years, is excellent for backlink analysis. It's a reliable way to monitor my own link profile, check for lost links, and, with the Link Intersect tool, find new link-building opportunities by seeing who links to my competitors but not to me. What they dislike: While Moz Pro is a powerful tool, it does have some limitations that can be frustrating, especially for more advanced or large-scale users. My biggest frustration is with the data depth and update frequency. The keyword database, while good, often feels smaller compared to some competitors, which can make it challenging to find long-tail keywords in very niche industries. Additionally, the data can sometimes be slower to update, making real-time campaign performance analysis difficult. While the interface is generally user-friendly, some of the reporting limits on the lower-tier plans can be quite strict. For a growing website, it's easy to hit the page crawl or keyword report limits, which can force an upgrade sooner than anticipated.

Moz Local Is Amazing

What they like: We joined 7 business areas to test it out. To keep the test legit, we're not doing some other work on them. Following 5 weeks in the program all postings enhanced, yet not all sites and databases made strides. New postings were made and information was included and adjusted existing profiles. Moz Local is fantastic when trying to get accurate and complete syndication through Localeze. It also beats the nightmare that is Yahoo Local, justifies the Moz Local price. What they dislike: It does take quite a bit of time to see the results of having your business on Moz. While this is not their fault but rather the way search is. I also would prefer to see EVERY single listing my site is on. i would also like to have better reporting on these programs as well. When clients are using this they want to be able to see the growth overall for their account and there is no way to download a PDF or another form to show them this information

Easy to use for keyword traffic

What they like: I've been trusting the Moz brand now for over 1 year at work. I find their products and Whiteboard Fridays with Ran to be very useful when conducting keyword research and doing local citation building. I am a current ongoing customer of Moz Local and use it to help boost citations and local listings for my clients. In the past year, they recently made changes to their dashboard and how you upload your business information. The portal used to be very confusing and had minimal fields to fill out and submit. What I like now about Moz Local is being able to track my clients' updated local SEO scores and find NAP inconsistencies across well-known aggregators and other trusted listing sites. They now have better options to upload images, content, and reporting tools within ML to help track their progress. What they dislike: I find Yext local white label for agencies with a big budget to be much better than ML however since MOZ focuses more on SEO and is known in the industry to be a good source of content, I stick to Moz local to help boost my local citations for my clients. Switched From: Yext

Useful, but I prefer other similar tools

I had a good experience with them. Nevertheless, I wouldn't pay for it. Price is very similar to Ahrefs/SemRush and I would rather invest in those. I would consider it if the tool would be 30%-40% cheaper. Pros: Most of the features are useful. Nothing to say about that. Keyword tracking, reporting, competitors analysis. All is useful either for freelance SEO consultants and agencies either for On-house SEO consultants. What I like the most about Moz if the Domain Authority metric. Cons: I'm not a big fan of their UX, specially in the beginning, I found very hard to find the feature I was looking for. Also, the price is similar to other similar tools that have more and better features (Ahrefs or SemRush).

Moz Pro is the best

We have used Moz Pro since last 6 months to improve SEO and it is worth it. We largely use the platform to research new keywords and grow traffic. The tool is very accurate when it comes to finding new keywords and their relevant volumes. Pros: - Moz is one such tool that can help you research thousands of long tail keywords for a topic- Search volume suggested by Moz Pro is very accurate- It can help you do keyword research for any language- Also, search volume for shown basis location is also very accurate Cons: Moz Pro is one such expensive tool that everyone cannot afford. They need to have some cheap plans for smaller companies.

My Review Moz Pro

Moz became our backlink tools. It is affordable and offers great value. Moz is a great tool for SEO auditing and reporting. The insights I gain from the tool are extremely useful and helped me achieve high rankings on search engine results pages. Moz is a great tool for tracking 'nofollow' links and backlink analysis Pros: MoxPro is my first choice for site and page ranking. They seem more reliable than other sites. It is a great tool to find opportunities to track any link and check for errors, It also helps me to perform SEO audits. It is an integral part of any company's marketing toolkit. Cons: It can sometimes seem overwhelming to a new user with so many features. A user guide would be helpful. Moz will prepare you for a 30-minute consultation. However, these consultations can take two weeks or more, so you will have to figure everything out yourself. Moz could be so much better if it allowed you to suggest keywords and links. We have all the tools, and despite this small detail Moz pro is a great tool for Marketing

MOZ Pro - a powerful tool for SEO

Moz Pro packages the entire software into a beautiful UX/UI with awesome data visualization, which is extremely helpful for me to look through the data without feeling frustrated on 'what am I really looking at?' Moz Chrome Extension is a great tool for getting things like Page Rank and SERP standing, which helps me identify how my competition is doing and prospecting new leads. Would only recommend Moz Pro to the seasoned professional who understands SEO. Pros: Moz Pro is a comprehensive SEO tool for marketers like myself, and it packs a ton of features like keyword explorer and backlink checker that are an absolute must for crafting any digital marketing strategy. I'm probably in these two tool sets the most, and I love Moz Pro's Keyword explorer more than any other SEO software I've tried. The Keyword explorer helps you find both short and long-tail keywords that are profitable in your desired niche, and helps round out your keyword strategy with lucrative or hidden keywords that you may not have known about before. This helps you craft blog posts and put those keywords you just found through Moz Pro to gain new traffic through organic (or paid) search. Cons: Moz Pro and (SEO) requires a lot of patience and a bit of knowledge in what SEO, keywords, SERP really is before you get the maximum benefits of Moz Pro. I wouldn't recommend the Pro version to anyone before they try out Moz standard version or at least do a bit of reading in SEO. It took me about a solid 2-3 months of really putting Moz Pro to the test before I understood everything.

Best SEO tool for find law difficult keywords

Moz Pro has accurate results. Moz pro is far better than other keyword research tools. It can give all the information about the keyword. Also, It has 30 days free trial. Moz is the best keyword research tool I ever found. Pros: I use Moz pro before writing any of my articles. The results are 100% accurate. My favourite feature is the SERP Analysis. It shows complete details of the Google first page according to the keyword. Also, it shows the difficulty of the keyword using graphs. It easy to understand. Moz Pro has a feature to find keywords by searching the website URL. So you can get all keyword of that page. Also, there has a filter to find law difficulty keyword. That helps to identify the best keywords. Also, it shows Page authority and Domain authority of websites. So it helps me to check the status of my website or any other websites. Cons: At first it hard to find law difficulty keyword. because there didn't have enough tutorials to learn about Moz pro. So I have to do self-studies. So if there has some tutorials especially video tutorials it will help to find best keywords.

What Moz actually does differently

Domain Authority, Page Authority, and Spam Score

Moz created these scores, and link builders and publishers across the industry quote them. Moz Pro shows them for any site, along with the newer Brand Authority score.

Keyword research that beginners can use

Keyword Explorer draws on 1.25 billion+ keywords, per Moz, and groups suggestions by intent. Reviewers single it out as easy to start with, and a limited version is free to try.

Site Crawl and client reports

Site Crawl lists technical errors with instructions for fixing them, and Campaigns turn rankings, links, and crawl data into scheduled reports. Branded reports start on Medium.

AI visibility tracking from the Standard plan up

Standard, Medium, and Large track prompts across GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Perplexity (150 on Standard, 600 on Large), so you see where AI answers mention your brand next to your Google rankings.

SEO training built in

The Beginner's Guide to SEO, Whiteboard Friday, and Moz Academy courses sit next to the tools, and reviewers mention them often.

Who Moz is for

Solo marketers and owners running a single website

You need keyword ideas, rank tracking, and a site audit, but not an agency-sized bill or a tool built for specialists.

Moz's entry plan ($49/mo) is built for one website; Standard ($99/mo) covers 3 tracked sites and 300 keywords.

In-house marketing teams at growing companies

Leadership wants to know how the brand shows up in Google and now in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity answers too.

Medium ($179/mo, the plan with the 7-day trial) adds 10 tracked sites, 1,500 keywords, and 300 tracked AI prompts.

SEO agencies reporting to clients

Every client wants rankings, links, and progress in a report with your logo on it, every month.

Medium and Large add branded reports and report templates, with 10 to 25 campaigns per account.

Multi-location and local businesses

Listings drift out of date across directories, and Google reviews pile up unanswered.

Moz Local (from $20/mo) keeps listings in sync across 90+ directories; Preferred ($30/mo) adds review responding and social posting.

Enterprise SEO teams tracking keywords at scale

You need daily, location-level SERP data on thousands of keywords, with an API to pipe it elsewhere.

STAT tracks daily rankings with an API and app, starting at $360/mo for 3,000 daily keywords.

Moz FAQ

Is Moz worth it?+

For most small and mid-size marketing teams, reviewers say yes. Moz Pro rates 4.3 on G2 and 4.5 on Capterra, mainly for ease of use, Domain Authority, keyword research, and reports. The main reservation is price: small businesses often call it expensive, and power users find the link and keyword data smaller than Ahrefs or Semrush.

Is Moz free?+

Moz has free tools, but Moz Pro is paid. A free Moz account gives limited access to MozBar, Keyword Explorer, and Link Explorer. Moz Pro costs from $49 a month for one site or $99 a month for Standard. The 7-day trial on the Medium plan asks for payment details and turns into a $179 monthly plan unless you cancel before it ends.

How much does Moz Pro cost?+

Standard is $99 a month, Medium $179, and Large $299, or $79, $143, and $239 a month billed yearly. A $49 plan covers a single website. Moz Local starts at $20 a month, and STAT at $360 a month.

Is Moz safe and legit?+

Yes. Rand Fishkin and Gillian Muessig founded it in 2004 as SEOmoz, and it became Moz in 2013. Since 2021 it has belonged to Ziff Davis (NASDAQ: ZD) through its iContact subsidiary. Its Domain Authority score is widely used across the industry. The Trustpilot reviews that call Moz a scam describe billing disputes.

What are the biggest complaints about Moz?+

Billing comes first: unprompted Trustpilot reviewers describe charges after a trial ended, auto-renewals they missed, and refused refunds. Next is price for small businesses, then data depth compared with Ahrefs and Semrush. MozBar users object to the login and limits added to the free extension, and some Moz Local users say listing updates were slow.

How do I avoid being charged after the Moz free trial?+

Cancel before the 7 days are up. Moz's pricing FAQ says you can cancel or change plans at any time. Several Trustpilot reviewers say they were charged because they cancelled late or the cancellation didn't go through, so check for a confirmation email.
